i got to play with some of my shoes during a photoshoot that i did and i had a good time with it. these are like 14 out of the 268 pairs that i own. i couldn't exactly bring everything i owned to the shoot. no one has the time for that.

kelleen and i started off as friends that just saw each other whenever we went out and slowly bonded over the fact that we have many similarities. i'm happy to say that since i've jumped on board with her miss california campaign, i've seen her happy perky face much more than i did before.

another thing we both recently discovered is that we are both passionate about a common cause - SENHOA

i worked with them in the past when i styled a photo shoot for them, and she's recently chosen Senhoa as her platform for miss california.

SENHOA.

ELLE's fabfive

Wednesday, July 14, 2010

i was watching the city on mtv and Elle magazine's editor-in-chief, Robbie Myers, had a segment on martha stewart discussing who she thought were the top 5 up-and-coming designers. i was pleasantly surprised to find out that 3 of the 5 designers were already personal faves of mine - a.wang, d.lam and j.wu

[thanks to marthastewart.com]

1. Prabal Gurung
Prabal Gurung fuses expert tailoring with daring design. His minimalist spring collection was incredibly easy to wear and refreshing. The word "fierce" is often used when talking about Prabal's clothes -- even in the traditionally lighter, more relaxed ideas put forth for spring.

Spring look: Black tropical-wool-and-silk duchesse tuxedo jacket, electric-blue silk-and-wool tuxedo pant with ankle bowties, black four-ply silk-crepe pleated tank with nylon mesh insets, black-and-white Manolo Blahnik for Prabal Gurung shoes.

2. Alexander Wang
Alexander Wang is the cool-girl designer. Young, downtown, urban types found their patron saint in his almost-tough, witty updates of classic jackets and suits. For spring, he offered a clever twist to the solid polo shirt. His spring line was brimming with denim and khaki, shoulder-accentuated heather-gray sweatshirts, leather shorts, sporty crop tops, and shredded red stripes emitting a rugby vibe. Wang also used a variety of fabrics such as nylon and army canvas.

Spring look: White poplin Oxford top with cross back, asymmetrical khaki skirt with leather detail, khaki denim jacket, leather overall skirt with patch pockets.

3. Joseph Altuzarra
Joseph Altuzarra sets out to make beautiful, well-cut, body-conscious pieces that make women feel sexy. He takes an easy hand with luxurious materials, and his spring collection had a very sweet, easy feeling.

Spring look: Suede caned trench; suede, silk, and chiffon patchwork dress; pink ankle-wrap suede sandals.

4. Derek Lam
Of all of these designers, Derek Lam is the most established; he's been doing his own collection since 2003. Last year, Elle said Lam was poised to become the next great American designer, a la Donna Karan or Ralph Lauren. After staying away from full-on color in the past, Derek went all out for spring.

Spring look: Navy top, red skirt

5. Jason Wu
Jason is all about emphasizing the female form with luxurious fabrics and detailing. His dresses vary from romantic shapes adorned with feathers and ruffles to polished streamlined sheaths to flirty cocktail dresses. This look exemplifies that: a rich jewel-tone cocktail dress cut with a light touch, so it feels more fun than a stiff, formal garment.

Spring look: Red dress with black belt
